bat biodiversity partnership - Achievements 2006 - 2010

In the following pages, we evaluate our key achievements over the last five years against our three strategic priorities.

For the period 2006–2010, the Partnership set out to address three strategic priorities:

1 - Helping British American Tobacco to embed biodiversity assessment, management and conservation into its business culture and operations

During Term 2, British American Tobacco, supported by the NGO Partners, embarked on a journey to embed biodiversity conservation principles into its businesses, and to manage biodiversity and ecosystem issues across its leaf-growing operation

2 - Building capacity of individuals, organisations and local stakeholders around conservation

Effective conservation relies on the skills of individuals and organisations. As well as building capacity within British American Tobacco. Term 2 also enabled all three NGO Partners to train individuals, support their conservation  partners and strengthen their own capacity to engage with business.

3 - Improving biodiversity conservation in areas of mutual interest to the Partners, to protect and restore habitats and species, and ensure sustainable use of natural resources

A key part of Term 2 has been to protect and restore habitats and species and ensure sustainable use of natural resources both within the landscapes where British American Tobacco has leaf-growing operations and also in areas which are rich in biodiversity and acutely threatened.
